ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 7. Epson Printer Model Selection ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select your printer model name from the list of Epson** printer models. If the
list does not include your model, look in your printer user's manual for
indication that your printer functions similarly to one of those listed. If
you cannot select a specific model identifier from the list, select the
appropriate name from the list below:
o Use Epson 9 pin - 80 columns for a printer model with a letter prefix ending
with X, such as MX, RX, EX, FX, and DFX, that can hold forms with a maximum
width of 9-1/2 inches, including perforations.
o Use Epson 9 pin - 136 columns for a printer model with a letter prefix
ending with X, such as MX, RX, EX, FX, and DFX, that can hold forms with a
maximum width of 15 inches, including perforations.
o Use Epson 24 pin - 80 columns for a printer model with a letter prefix
ending with Q, such as LQ or SQ, that can hold forms with a maximum width of
9-1/2 inches, including perforations.
o Use Epson 24 pin - 136 columns for a printer model with a letter prefix
ending with Q, such as LQ or SQ, that can hold forms with a maximum width of
15 inches, including perforations.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 8. Help for Epson Printer Properties ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Use this window to select from the characteristics that describe the physical
setup of your printer. The information provided concerns the characteristics
of the Epson** model identified in the Printer field. The Application's Title
information field shows which program you used to display the window.
Properties fields in this window enable you to determine the number of
characters horizontally per inch, the currently active form, print resolution
quality, paper feed, and the orientation of the characters. For some models,
you can also determine which bin feeds the paper, and select from between color
and monochrome printing.
For a detailed explanation of each field, select from the list below:
o Printer
o Default Font Size (in CPI)
o Form
o Resolution
o Orientation
o Paper Feed
o Use Color
o Form Feed Control
o Form Options
o OK
o Cancel
o About

ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 9. Help for Printer ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select Printer to display a brief description of the model.
You cannot change the model in this Properties window. If you want to
reference or set up a different model, select Cancel, then select the model you
want.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 10. Help for Default Font Size (in CPI) ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Use this field to select a default font size.
Default Font Size affects most programs. If you send print jobs to the Epson**
, you can select one radio button to set the number of characters per inch
(CPI) that print horizontally. Select 10 CPI for a Courier face similar to a
typewriter setting of PICA. Select 12 CPI for a Courier face similar to a
typewriter setting of ELITE. Select 15 CPI for a Courier face similar to a
condensed mode of printing.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 11. Help for Form ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The Form fields describe the currently active form, selected from among all the
forms defined for this printer.
The Name field identifies the currently selected form. The Size field shows
the physical size of the current form. Actual differs from Size for rotated
printing. For some models, Actual adjusts the physical size boundaries to
compensate for nonprintable regions and the physical characteristics of a
printer.
Select Form Options to select a different defined form as current, or to add,
change, delete forms defined for this printer.
Note: Whenever you change the paper loaded in the printer, select Form
Options to change Printer Properties.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 12. Help for Form Options ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select Form Options for access to the list of forms defined for this printer.
Use the list to select a defined form as current, add a new form, change the
definition of a form, or delete a defined form.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 13. Help for Resolution ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select High resolution for the best print quality. Because printing in high
resolution takes longer, you can reserve this setting for final documents.
Select Medium for an intermediate level of print quality
Select Low to print faster, producing draft quality characters or graphics.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 14. Help for Orientation ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select the left-hand radio button, identified with a letter E in its normal
position, or portrait (upright) orientation, if you want to print the top of
the printed material in the same direction as the top of the paper. Letters,
books, and reports usually have portrait orientation.
Select the right-hand radio button, identified by the letter E which appears to
be lying on its back, or Landscape (rotated) orientation, if you want to print
perpendicular to the direction in which the paper is fed. Landscape is
frequently selected for documents such as spreadsheets or plotted graphics,
which are wider than they are long.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 15. Help for Paper Feed ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select one of these radio buttons to indicate how the printer receives its
paper supply. Select Tractor Feed for continuous forms with perforated
sprocket holes, such as fanfold paper or labels. Select Single Sheet Feed to
manually insert a single sheet of paper for each page that prints, such as
letterhead or odd-size paper. Select CSF if your printer has a cut sheet
feeder bin, and you want the paper to drop in from the bin. When you select
CSF, you can also select the radio buttons in the Cut Sheet Feeder and Bin
fields.
Check that the Form fields describe a form that you can use with the type of
Paper feed you select.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 16. Help for Cut Sheet Feeder ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
You use a combination of page and bin radio buttons to indicate which bin holds
a form for printing the first page of your print jobs, or which holds the
remaining page forms. For example, you might load bin 1 with letterheads, and
bin 2 with plain bond paper.
1. Select First page.
2. Select 1 or 2, depending upon which bin holds your cover page form.
Or:
1. Select Other pages.
2. Select 1 or 2, depending upon which bin holds your regular paper.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 17. Help for Use Color ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select this check box to choose color printing. You can make this selection
only for a printer model that has color capability. When you select color
printing, this box has an X in it.
To change to black-on-white, select the box again, causing the X to disappear.
You might prefer black-on-white for proofs or long text printouts. If you
select black-on-white, consider putting a black ribbon in the printer, rather
than using the black band more frequently than the other colors on a color
band.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 18. Help for Form Feed Control ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Use the Form Feed Control radio buttons to indicate if the printer driver is to
send a form-feed control at the end of each job. The three choices are:
o None. A form feed is not added to the end of each job.
o Compulsory Form Feed. A form feed is only added to the end of the job if the
job does not end with a form feed.
o Conditional Form Feed. A form feed is always added to the end of each job.
These radio buttons only apply to raw data jobs.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 19. Help for No Form Feed ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select this check box if you DO NOT want a form feed to be inserted at the end
of the raw data stream. For example, when copying a text file to the printer
port in the command line, the printer will not move to the beginning of the
next page after printing out the file.

o Conditional Form Feed
o Compulsory Form Feed
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 20. Help for Compulsory Form Feed ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select this check box if you want a form feed to be inserted at the end of the
rawdata stream, irregardless of what is at the end of the stream. For example,
when copying a text file to the printer port in the command line, the printer
will always append a form feed whether or not it sees one at the end of the
file.
See also:
o No Form Feed
o Conditional Form Feed
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 21. Help for Conditional Form Feed ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select this check box if you want a form feed to be inserted at the end of the
rawdata stream, if one does not exist. For example, when copying a text file
to the printer port in the command line, the printer will append a form feed if
it does not see one at the end of the file.

ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 22. Help for Job Types ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The effect of printer or job properties on a job depends on the job type:
Graphics data jobs are created by Presentation Manager* programs and typically
have a graphical content. Raw data jobs are initiated by OS/2* operating system
commands such as:
COPY /B <file> LPT1
PRINT <file>
Raw data jobs typically consist of Personal Printer Data Stream (PPDS)
commands.

form supplied with the driver, or the currently active form.
Selecting Delete causes a window to appear, in which you can confirm or cancel
the deletion. Selecting OK deletes the selected form. Selecting Cancel
returns the Form Options selection list without deleting the form.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 29. Help for Add Form ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Use Add Form to describe a form you want added to the Defined Form Names list.
You would add a form if the defined forms do not include a paper size that
matches the paper loaded in your printer. You can also add a form to assign a
unique name to a preprinted form, even if it conforms to a size already
defined. You can add up to 48 user-defined forms.
Before filling in the Width and Height fields, check that the Unit selected
matches the units you use to measure paper size.

ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 38. Help for Form ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The Form fields describe the default form, selected from among all the forms
defined for this printer. A print job uses this form when you do not select a
different form from your program. The Name field identifies the default form.
The Size field shows the physical size of the named form. Actual differs from
Size for rotated printing. For some models, Actual adjusts the physical size
boundaries to compensate for nonprintable regions and the physical
characteristics of a printer.
Select Form Options to select a different default form.
Note: A Forms mismatch message appears if the form selected for a waiting
print job does not match the form currently loaded in the printer, or
the form selected in the Printer Properties window, and the job stays
on hold without printing.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 39. Help for Form Options ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ <hidden> default ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
A value, attribute, or option that is assumed when another is not explicitly
specified.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ <hidden> radio button ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
A circle with text beside it. Radio buttons are combined to show you a fixed
set of choices from which only one can be selected. The circle is partially
filled when a choice is selected. Contrast with check box.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ <hidden> resolution ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Density or sharpness of an image. For bit-map material, resolution is
expressed in dots-per-inch, with higher quality output having more dots-per-
inch. Resolution can be adjusted for some printers. Low-resolution images are
printed faster, but appear coarser than high-resolution images. A printer's
memory size can limit the resolution you can choose.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ <hidden> check box ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
A square box with associated text that represents one choice in a set of
multiple choices. When you select a choice, a check mark appears in the check
box to indicate that the choice is in effect. You can clear the check box by
selecting the choice again. Contrast with radio button.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ <hidden> check mark ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
A symbol that shows that a choice is currently active. This symbol is used in
menus and check boxes. See check box.
